A STRANGE PREDICTION.

A “SIBYL” WHOM EMPEROR FREDERICK CONSULTED USED CABALISTIC METHODS. We reproduce an article (given to us by a local resident) which appeared in the Montreal Star about eight years ago, which is of interest in connection with the present war : London, Nov. 20. —In the current number of The Occult Review, Ralph Shirley, the editor of that interesting publication, has a curious note on Germany, in which the coincidences mentioned are so strange as to have attracted a good deal of attention outside the circles to which The Occult Review generally appeals. Mr Shirley begins by speaking of recent queer happenings in Artern, Saxony. Hundreds of the inhabitants we are informed, had gathered in the large square which has Bismarck’s statue in its centre, when suddenly the sword which the figure of the maker of modern Germany holds extended at length dropped from the statue’s hand and fell noisily to the ground. The fall of the sword was immediately followed by that of the sword arm of the Imperial Chancellor. “Talking of Germany and German political affairs,” adds Mr Shirley, “it is, I think, worth while to quote a story of a prediction made by a celebrated sibyl to the late Kaiser Friedrich, when Crown Prince. The prophetess in question was evidently an employer of Cabalistic methods, as her deductions were the result ol a manipulation of numbers. On being consulted by the then Crown Prince, she took a sheet of paper and wrote down the date of the Prussian revolution, 1849. Placing the same figures in a vertical position, and adding them up beneath the original total brought her to the period of the Franco German war, 1871, a date which she declared would see the rise of the German Empire. She proceeded to lake this date again and placing its own digits one beneath the ottier, and then repealing the previous process,- she arrived at the number 1888, which she declared would be the date of her consultant's death.

“One further question was put to her by her imperial visitor: ‘How loug,’ he asked, would the Empire of Germany last?’ She took the last figures again and placing them vertically beneath their sum, she added up, and gave him the figures 1913- I subjoin the very simple calculations involved, so that every reader can a i ive at the results himself:— 1849 1871 ISBB ixi 8 8 8 478 918 1871 188 S 1913 “1 have,” adds Mr Shirley, whose own speciality is astrology, “alluded specially to this incident as it coincides in a curious way with the date I have already given in these pages, the year 19x3, as a time of special disaster to the present Kaiser. My calculation, I may add, was not based on numbers, but ou astrology. The very threatening position of the planet Uranus in this year in relation to the horoscope of the Emperor William is one which no astrologer could overlook, affecting as it does the radical position of Saturn and also the position of the Spu at birth, which is plready gravely menaced in the imperial nativity.”
