The French have advanced into Alsace - Lorraine and occupied Mulhausen. Reports state that the German casualties in Alsace were 30,000. Liege has been invested but the Belgians still hold the. forts. The Germans hold the Governor and Bishop of Liege as hostages, and threaten to put them to death if the forts continue firing,.
A Berlin message says: “We bold Liege fast in our bands. The losses of the enemy are considerable.” The Admiralty states that German submarines attacked one of the cruiser squadrons of the main fleet! No British ships were damaged. The German submarine Uls was sunk.'
Montenegro has declared war on Austria.
Italy is determined to remain neutral. . The relief fund in London has reached The German . warships have laid a line of mines in the Kattegat. Mr Winston Churchill states there has been no naval fighting in the North Sea.
The New Zealand Expeditionary Force is to be sent to Europe and will be commanded by General Godley.
