HOCKEY.
FOXTON A (i) v. EEVIN A (2). Foxton A lost practically all chance ot the hockey championship yesterday by allowing Levin Ato defeat them. Three local A’s showed the interest they have in their clubby refusing to travel, and as a consequence the team went over short handed. Through the courtesy of the Levin players they were allowed to play Munro and another substitute, but even then they could only muster ten men. Five minutes after the initial bully, Munro, in turning sharply, put his knee out, and had to retire. The whites, however, made the game so willing that they were pressing Levin most of the time. O’Brien and Ingram guarded their goal most jealously, nipping in the bud all the Black forward rushes, while the forwards, all of whom were playing rattling good games, were within an ace of scoring half-a-dozen times. At half time the score was none all. In the second half the Levin forwards put a different aspect on the game by scoring two goals in the first ten minutes. Munro was now playing again, but was greatly handicapped by his knee, while Ingram’s knee also gave out. Fighting desperately the remnant of the once “glorious” white team managed to carry play to the other end of the field where their were rewarded by Woodroofe scoring a goal. The referee did not allow it, however, so it was a case of “as you were.” Nothing daunted they made another attempt a tew minutes later and the substitute, who was playing inner left, notched Foxton’s one goal. The game ended a few minutes later.
FOXTON B (1) v. SHANNON COOn the local ground Foxton B drew with Shannon I—r.1 —r. The game was a very willing one from the start and Shannon, who were without their full strength, found themselves up against a stiffen proposition than they expected. From a scramble in the circle Haslett scored lor Foxton, but Tippler equalised for Shannon a little later. There was no further score. During the progress of the game a Shannon player was ordered off for using bad language. For the B’s. Cecil and Hurston Robinson did excellent work, while Reuben in goal saved quite a number of certain goals. Ken Furrie was very sure at full back.
