NO-LICENSE.
MR. BOBERTSON, M.P., ASKED TO EXPLAIN.
A meeting of the Otaki No* license Council was held at Shannon yesterday afternoon. The Rev A. C. Randerson, M.A., president, occupied the chair, and delegates were present from all parts of the electorate. The organiser submitted his report, which was considered satisfactory. It was decided to ask the Alliance to arrange for a visit to the electorate of Mr P. Snowden. M.P., during his visit to New Zealand, and to speak at either Foxton or Shannon. It was decided to arrange for a visit from Mr Sheldon, the famous author. The Incensing Bill now before the House was discussed, and keen disappointment expressed at the rejection of the reduced majority clause required to carry National Prohibition, and the following motion was carried unanimously : —■“That this large and representative meeting of the Otaki Electoral No-License Council, while recognising that there may have been completely satisfactory reasons for the absence of Mr John Robertson, M.P., from the division list that killed the Bill, in view of the tremendous issues at stake in the successful passage of the Bill, in view especially of robbing the people (as the defeat of the . Bill entails for a further term) of their just democratic right to decide the issue on a reduced handicap, that this meeting regrets Mr Robertson’s absence from the division, and requests him to explain his failure to record bis vote.” Other routine business was discussed, and it was decided to hold the next meeting in Foxton in a month’s time.
