MUNICIPAL PICTURES
The programme for to-morrow night promises to be a really firstclass one, the star film, “ A Modern Jeky 11 and Hyde,” is a stirring story of a man leading two lives arid shows how hypocrisy masks the face of a villain, who is an esteemed citizen by day and a regular criminal by night. The film is a most absorbing study in criminology. Space will not permit a full explanation of the plot so we must content ourselves by giving a brief synopsis of events: jetho Smith, estimable citizen—in reality a leader of desperate criminals —A dual life —A man with two personalities—His daughter Nora ignorance of her father’s life — Smith incurs the hatred of Hykes, one of the gang—Hykes holds up and robs Nora—The stolen necklace —Roger, Nora’s lover, to the rescue —Escape of Hykes—Smith changes his personality The gang’s rendezvous—Dividing the plunder—Smith recognises Nora’s necklace —Smith’s dual life is revealed to the gang Hykes threatens to inform Nora of her father’s character—A fight among thieves—The police raid—Escape of Smith—Smith In respectable guise—Changing clothes at the shack —Hykes pursued by the police—The knock on the door — Smith and Hykes alone in the shack Deadly hatred Sensational duel in the dark—The four revolver flashes —Fatal to both men —Death of Hykes and Smith —Found by the police—The sergeant’s telegram to Nora —The girl in blissful ignorance—Smith’s secret dies with him —Nora finds a lover’s sympathy. The other drama, ‘‘Secret Lodo,” is a play of genuine grip and deep interest. Both the comics are most amusing and full of laughter. The scenic, “Through Bosnia and Dalmatia,” will be of more than usual interest owing to the present war cloud in Europe. “Wood Carving in the Tyrol,” is an educational film that will be appreciated by one and all. “The Jeaboa,” is a splendid Pathe colour nature study and marvellous reproduction of the habits of this rare animal. The whole programme is right up to the very high standard that has always attained with the municipal pictures.
