TOHUNGA IN TROUBLE.
UVELY TIMES AT WHENUAKURA PA. Wanganui, July 27. Tohungaism is reported to have in evidence again at WhenuPa, between Patea and Waverley. An epidemic, the nature of which is not yet known, recently broke out there, and three deaths resulted. It is alleged that a Maori man has been treating patients, and that their deaths raised doubts as to bis “powers” being genuine, with the result that yesterday things very lively at the pa, and several fights, with the tohunga as one of the principals, took place, but in most cases he came oft second best. Constable Armour and Dr Simmons, of Patea, are now investigating the matter.
