ABUSIVE LANGUAGE.
OFFENDER FINED. At the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Sam Puki and Bob Sullivan were charged with using threatening and abusive language towards one Robert Bryant in a public place, within the hearing of passers-by, whereby a breach of the peace may have been occasioned. Puki was in attendance, and pleaded guilty, but there was no appearance of Sullivan. Evidence was given by Robert Bryant to the effect that Puki and Sullivan came into his shop to buy meat. They disputed the price asked, and upon witness telling them to leave the shop and get the meat elsewhere if they were not satisfied, they became very abusive, and threatened to fight, Sullivan was the worst offender. The Magistrate convicted and fined Puki 10s, with costs 12s, and in Sullivan’s case a conviction was entered, and he was fined 40s, with costs 12s, in default seven days’ imprisonment.
