SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

. -The. ordinary monthly meeting of the Foxton School was held on Thursday evening. Present : Messrs Chrystall, Henderson, Hussey, Perreau, Thompson and Betty. An apology Iqr,absence was received from the Chaiman (Mr Horublow). MrJ. Chrystal was voted to the chair. Correspondence was read from the Education Board advising that the Board had agreed to pay the supervisor of the local technical classes the sum of out of the profits of the classes and from the Foxton Borough Council stating that the Committee’s request for a donation ot towards cost of asphalting path from,, gate... to school entrance in return for gravel received had been granted. The headteacher reported the average attendances for the past four weeks were 350, 345*6, 315*1, and* 334.6, the average for the whole period being 336'3 out of an average roll number of 377*75. The present roll number is 378. Sickness has somewhat affected the attendance. Mr . Longworth, drill instructor, paid, an official visit to the school on Tuesday, July 14th. inspected all classes and stated that he was much pleased with ; the work done in this subject. . The boys under my supervision have finished planting the hedges and erecting the necessary guard fencing. I would suggest that ‘ working bees ’ be . held occasionally on Wednesday after-, noons to finish levelling the tennis court.”

Messrs Betty and Chrystall, last month's visitors, submitted their report, in which one or two minor repairs, etc., were suggested. They also recommended the institution of another “Bee” at an early date to finish levelling the tennis court ground, and expressed their appreciation of the work done on Arbor Day.

On the motion of Messrs Thompson and Perreau; the reports were adopted. Several accounts were passed for payment. Messrs Henderson and Hussey were appointed visitors for the month.

On the motion of Mr Hussey, seconded by Mr Betty, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to all who assisted in connection with the Arbor Day celebrations and also to Mr Peter Robinson for refreshments supplied. In connection with the suggestion of the headteacher re working bees and the visiting committee’s recommendations in connection with same, the Chairman said they were worthy of consideration. Other members of the committee concurred to hold on Wednesday, August sth at 2 p.m. for the purpose of levelling the tennis court when the assistance of any of the residents of the town will be appreciated.

Other routine business was transacted and the meeting rose.
