The Manawatu Herald. Thursday, July 23, 1914. NOTES AND COMMENTS.
In conversation with a wellknown citizen, who possesses a wide knowledge of laud values, we are informed that local people are too proue to cry “stinking fish’ : in respect to their town and district. He considered that the Foxton district cannot help going ahead in the near future and he would not hesitate in strongly recommending people to invest money here. He says that it is recognised as second to none for poultry raising; apples and peaches can be grown here to greater perfection than :n either Nelson or Hawke's Bay and the climate is ai. He stated further that when people know how to treat the present sand areas, the dairying industry will boom. He instanced what had already been done by certain farmers in the growing of lucerne in bare sand. Land in the vicinity, if cut up and put on the market, would be taken up and made to produce a handsome profit. He was very optimistic of Foxton’s future but he said the cry of “stinking fish” should be abandoned.
