NORTH v. SOUTH.

South scored a very lucky win against the North yesterday, at Shannon, by one goal to nil. The heavy nature of the ground was against fast play, but still the game was well worth seeing. The first half was very even, the ball travelling up and down the field at a great rate. Just before half time, McMurray received a terrific bang on the side of the head, and whilst he was being attended to, the opposing side got busy and scored the only goal of the match. In the second half, the north had easily the best of it, but were unable to score. Smart and Whitehouse were most conspicuous for the winners, while McMurray, Bryant and Baughan were out on their own for the North. They played with splendid combination, and whenever one ot then got the ball he instituted a forward rush that usually ended in a shot at goal. O’Brien was in great form in goal, saving two or three particularly hot shots. At full-back, Burgess was a little out of place and failed to do himself justice. Of the Moutoa players, R. Bowe, at centre half, was best.

The Waikato Association has accepted Horowhenua’s challenge for the Nordern Cup. If sufficient players are able to travel the match will be played at Hamilton at an early date.
