PRESENTATION.

Mr H. Stunell, who recently resigned from the position of manager of the local gas works and who is leaving Foxton next week for Wellington, was last night the recipient ot a presentation from members of the Bowling and Racing Clubs and citizens of Foxton.

The presentation was made in the Racing Club’s office by Mr W. E. Barber and took the form of a purse containing 50 sovereigns. In asking Mr Stunell to accept same as a mark of the esteem in which he was held, Mr Barber expressed regret that Mr Stunell was leaving Foxton. Speaking as vice-presi-dent of the Racing Club, he said that during the time Mr Stunell was in Foxton he had always taken a keen interest in the welfare of the club and had occupied the positions of a steward and clerk of scales, and in expressing his regret at Mr Stunell’s departure be was also voicing the sentiments of the stewards and members. He wished Mr and Mrs Stunell health and prosperity in their new home. Mr F. Woods, vice-president of the Bowling Club, on behalf of the members expressed regret at the loss the club would sustain as a result of Mr Stunell’s departure. He was a vice-president, a member since its inception and one of their best players and his place in the club would be very hard to fill, Mr Stunell had always taken a keen interest in sport of all kinds and his influence had been for keeping the sport clean and honourable. As a citizen he had the welfare of the town and district at heart. By his departure Foxton was losing a good and honourable citizen and a “clean sport.” He concluded by wishing Mr and Mrs Stunell prosperity in the future.

Mr and Mrs Stunell’s health was drunk with musical honours followed by three hearty cheers. In responding, the recipient expressed sincere thanks on behalf of himself and Mrs Stunell for the presentation, and said they would always look forward to coming back to Foxton even for only a day or so. Their stay in Foxton had been very enjoyable and they had made many good friends and were genuinely sorry to leave.
