WOOLLY APHIS.
'■ this pest the French Review of Aplisd Plant Pathology advises a paint consisting ol linseed oil (yib.), white lead and wuile zinc (ilb). This would have the added advantage of sealing the scars from further attack. It lias been stated that a spraying with pure water followed by the use of kerosene emulsion gives good results. This would probably be due to the removal of the wax by the water —if applied under pressute—and similar spraying with kerosene emulsion alter heavy rain might be an advantage. If lime-sulphur is to be used just before the bursting of the buds, as seems advisable in the light of last year’s visitation of thrips, this might take the place of the second winter spraying with tobacco wash. In using tobacco wash lor the control of the pest during the bearing season, the molasses must be abandoned as the fruit approaches maturity, to avoid spotting.
