DISASTROUS FIRE.
MR G. P. DONNELLY’S RESIDENCE BURNED. A APIER, July 3. A disastrous re occurred about 7.30 thisev. when Mr G. P. Donnelly fiue residence, “Otara,” at radale, of 18 rooms, was con. letely destroyed. Mr Donnelly an i bis sister, Mrs Hoadley, were at dinner at the time of the outbreak and the fire was discovered by a maid in an upstairs bedroom. Some valuable pictures and a few articles of furniture were saved, but a large quantity of valuable furniture was destroyed. The cause of the fire was eitfler a defective chimney or rats. Three-quarters of an hour after the outbreak was discovered the strong-room was the only portion of the building left standing. It is believed that the latter, which contains valuable papers, is intact. The house and contents were insured in the Commercial Union, but the amount was not ascertainable.
