The celebrated Fletcher Runic Stone, discovered near L . rouiu, Nova Scotia, by Dr F'etcr , tl.au " eotury -go ]-j now u’.; view in Loudon. Mr Phillips found that in an expscl’ - " - ; of Norsemen, which left Gu-cu-dand in the year 1007, the name of Harki occurred. This expedition established a colony in Vinland (Massachussets), and on their way partially explored Nova Scotia (Markland). To celebrate the event, Haiki, one of their chieftains, addressed his followers, and apparently this stone was inscribed in commemoration of the event.
