MUNICIPAL PICTURES. A really first class programme is promised for Saturday evening. The star drama “ A Man from the West,” is a play of the great Western Laud where men -are men, being a heart play of powerful grip and interest. Mr Stillwell, a wealthy Boston mine-owner, and his daughter Rose, take up residence in the West, among lawless Mexicans. Percy, a foppish young Easterner, is the guest of the Stillwells. He is the fiancee selected by Mr Stillwell for Rose. She is not in love with Percy, but becomes attracted by a Westerner. A Mexican bully is about to shoot Percy in a drinking saloon, but a timely shot from the Westerner’s revolver knocks the Mexican’s firearm from his hand. In revenge, the Mexican collects some kindred spirits and kidnaps Rose, whom he holds for ransom. Mr Stillwell is prostrated with grief when the news is brought to him, and Percy appears powerless to help, but the Westerner undertakes to rescue Rose, and does so alone. Two of the Mexicans escape, but the Westerner follows them, and, later, recaptures the leader, whom he marches to gaol. Rose, in the meantime, has left with her father for her home in Boston, and a note to the Westerner invites him to follow her for his sombrero, which she has taken for a keepsake. The Westerner accepts the invitation, and the denouement comes.
