To morrow night will see a really first-class programme, for the star film “At Handgrps with Death,” is a most captivating and emotional drama by the Pathe Freres, this alone being sufficient to stamp it as a real live drama, which will be put on as only Pathe know how. The action takes place in Italy amidst surroundings of surpassing scenic beauty, and abounds in real and genuine stiring sensations. A sensational Italian story showing how the infatuation ot a smugglar for a girl leads him to crime. Finding his ardour hopeless, he stirs up jealousy against the maiden, and it is only in the nick of time that she is rescued from a horrible death. The smuggler gains the fate he had intended for her. Space will not permit a lengthy description of this very attractive picture, but the following are some of the chief incidents and speak for themselves. An Italian Smuggler’s Infatuation — The Signorina at his Choice — Caro Mio —Unrequited Love — Jealousy Aroused —Spurned Love turns to Devilish Hate —Plotting t o Kill—A Fiendish Plan—Luring a Girl to Her Fate —On the Brink of a Precipice —A Life that Hung by a Thread —Severing the Rope —On the Threshold of Eternity— At Handgrips with Death—A Timely Rescue —The Biter Bit— Caught in his Own Trap—Peace of Mind at Last, The other drama is one of Edison’s fine humau films and in‘‘Tommy’s Stratagem,” we see a pathetic and tender play of real charm. In the scenic “ Tangiers,” we see a remarkable moving picture study of this fine city, showing life in the East in its most topical and picturesque aspect, ‘‘The Ant and the Grasshopper/’ is an astonishing trick him, and shows a clever photographic depiction of a unique and puzzling character. The Pathe Gazette is always welcomed and contains the most entertaining incidents pictured in many places at Home. In “ The Hermit Crab,” we have a Pathe series of immense interest, and a nature study conspicuous for the faithfulness of detail and of most intense interest. The Comics are “ A Ride lor a Bride” and “ Two Men and a Piano,” the former being a Keystone is bound to be a favourite and is a veritable gallop through laughter land and is a pure fun maker to both young and old. The latter is a great Reliance comedy hit and an excrutiatingly funny laughter raiser. The whole of the programme can be well recommended.
