HOCKEY.

The first round of the hockey competition was completed yesterday. The local match, Foxton A. v. Foxton 8., resulted in a win for the former by five goals to one. The B.’s put up a rattling good game and on the day’s play the scores should have been more even. McMurray (-), Negus, Woodroofe and Bryant scored for the A.’s, while Hamer broke the B.’s “duck.” Mr Woods was referee and gave satisfaction to both sides. The A.’s have now had three wins and two losses —six points out of a possible of 10. The second round commences at once, but the fixtures are not yet to hand.
