TEVIOTDALE MEMORIAL FUND.

A meeting of subscribers of the above fund was held in the Council Chambers last night. The Mayor presided. The Committee’s report was read as follows : Your Committee, after careful deliberation, beg to report as follows in respect to the disposal of the fund : that the balance of the fund, other than an amount (approximately ,£4O) to be set aside for a memorial, be handed over to Mrs Teviotdale, and recommend the appointment of an advisory committee to assist Mrs Teviotdale if their services are required. Re medals to Mr Guy Edwards and Master Ebbett. The committee have ordered two circular gold medals, the front of each to contain a laurel wreath and the following inscription: ‘‘From the Citizens of Foxton to Guy Edwards” and “Alfred Ebbett” respectively; and on the obverse side, to Edwards: “For bravery in saving life, Manawatu River, 1/5/14,” and to, Ebbett, “assisting lo save life, Manawatu River, 1/5/14.” The medals to be presented to the recipients in the Council Chambers at a date and time to be fixed. Re memorial. The committee have left the selection of the design to Mrs Teviotdale. Closing of the fund. The committee recommend the closing of the fund on Saturday, June 6th. Re Royal Humane Society recognition. The Mayor is carrying on negotiations in this connection.

Messrs Hornblow and Kellow, together with Mr Philips, were appointed an advisory committee. The commiitee’s report was adopted. The Mayor said the public response to the fund had exceeded his expectations and he was glad to know that a suitable recognition ot the late Mr Teviotdale’s sacrifice was so well supported. He referred to the correspondence which had passed between himself and the Royal Humane Society, touching the society’s recognition of the bravely of the late Mr Teviotdale and Messrs Edwards and Ebbett. The subject will receive the consideration of the society at its next meeting. The society pointed out that an in memoriam certificate would be given to the late Mr Teviotdale’s next of kin. Other minor matters were discussed and the meeting closed.
