HOCKEY.

The game played locally on Wednesday between ladies teams from Levin and Foxton was well contested, the visitors winning by three goals to nil. Foxton’s weakness is combination, more practice together being required. For the greater part of the first spell play was very even the ball being taken from end to end without any score being made. Just before half time Foxton were penalised for hitting behind and Levin scored the only goal in the first spell. Levin played much better in the second half, their passing at times being brilliant and they kept in their places whereas the Foxton girls seemed to be always in a bunch, this to a great extent losing them the match. Towards the end of the game the locals seemed to lose heart and Levin scored two goals in a few minutes, making the score three to nil.

Mr Bright made an efficient referee.

Among the local players Misses Bryant and Rimmer played well but were not fed enough. Both ate fast and given chances will make sterling players. Miss Hodgson played fairly weil but did not keep her team in hand and allowed the players to wander anywhere. Miss Elsie King played a good stick and Miss Lumsden saved Foxton time after time. The rest of the team played lair games individually. The team that played only wants combination to make it an exceedingly good one and their skipper should insist on each one keeping in her place so that when the backs did get the ball away the forwards would be able to take it on.

The local club is putting another men’s team in the competition. The Y.M.C.A. team has withdrawn and Foxton B. will take its place. The first match will be played against Moutoa at Moutoa on Wednesday.

The following are the results of the remaining matches played on Wednesday. Indies : Ohau defeated Shannon by one goal to nil and Tainui and Otaki played a drawn game, no score being registered. Men. —Moutoa defeated Shannon by four goals to nil, and Y.M.C.A. forfeited to Levin A.
