A meeting of footballers and all interested in the game will be held in the Manawatn Hotel to-night.

The supplementary district electors list for the Borough of Foxton, has just been printed. It contains 84 names, bringing the number on the roll up to 1x23. Constable Sweeney, who has been on duty at Takapau during the time the Territorials were in camp there, returned to Foxton last night.

George Elliott, 20 years of age, a dairy factory employee, shot himself in a boardinghouse at North Invercargill on Tuesday evening. No reason is known for the act.

The star film “ The Miracle” which has been drawing bigger houses than ‘‘Quo Vadis,” will be screened at the Coronation Hall on June 10th. The manager is making arrangements for special orchestra and choir for that night. A meeting of the committee of the local Horticultural Society was held on Tuesday evening, when routine business was transacted. The annual report and balancesheet for presentation at the annual meeting was submitted and approved.

Of the household furniture, etc,, offered for private sale by Mrs W. Teviotdale a quantity still remains unsold, including oak dining suite, sideboard, tables, electro-plate, linoleums, lamps, sundries, etc. The goods will be on sale at her residence until Saturday next. The launch party that was reported to have left Kapiti for Paremata on Sunday, arrived safely at Paremata late on Tuesday night. Owing to the heavy southerly wind on Sunday they put back to Kapiti for shelter, hence the delay in reaching their distination.

Only ratepayers, whose names appear on the ratepayers list, will be entitled to vote at the poll on Tuesday next, to decide whether the whole borough or the proposed reticulated area shall be pledged as security for the water and drainage loans. There are 577 names on the list entitled to record a vote.

Mr P. J. Henuessy was reelected Chairman of the Foxton Harbour Board at Tuesday’s annual meeting. In moving his re-election, Mr J. A. Nash referred to the good work Mr Hennessy had done while on the Board. Mr E. R. B. Holben, also spoke in appreciation of Mr Hennessy’s work as a Chairman of the Board.

On Sunday night some hoodlums spent their spare time in gashing with knives and otherwise damaging the screens covering the windows of various business places in Main Street. Two of the screens were found in a very damaged condition on Monday morning at the railway station. The police have the matter in hand, and if the perpetrators are discovered they will no doubt have to pay dear for their senseless prank. Mr W. Bock, secretary of the Foxton Harbour Board, tendered his resignation at Tuesday’s meeting of the Board. The resignation was received with regret, and eulogistic references were made by members present to the excellent services he had rendered the Board. Members felt that it was a great deal owing to him that the Board was in the good position it stood in. He had been an obliging and courteous officer, and his decision to retire was greatly regretted. The Board placed on record its appreciation of the services he had rendered.

The works committee of the borough council made au inspection of the borough yesterday afternoon and will submit a report on work considered necessary at the next meeting of the Council. At the meeting of the Foxton Harbour Board on Tuesday, Mr Nash took occasion to express appreciation of the work the Chairman had done in connection with the wharf matter. The purchase ol the wharf at Foxton would, he said, be a crowning point in Mr Hennessy's life. Mr “Rangi” Phillips, interviewed by an Otaki Mail reporter in Wellington on Tuesday, stated that he had not definitely decided to contest the Otaki seat, and that it was altogether too soon to make a definite announcement. He, however, hoped to be a candidate.

The Wootton, seven days out from Lyttelton, arrived via Picton yesterday, and sailed again last night for Wellington with hemp. The Kennedy with coal from Greymouth arrived yesterday and sailed to-day for Terakohe. The Queen of the South sailed last night for Wellington with hemp. The Awahou with a general cargo from Wellington arrived this afternoon, and the Waverley with coal from Westport crossed inwards, but stuck opposite Cleland’s. She is being lightered and will probably get off to-night. The Queen of the South is due tomorrow with general from Wellington. In this issue Mouusey and Co. advertise lull particulars of an importannt sale of household iurniture, piano, and effects they are conducting on Wednesday next, on account Miss E. L. Symons at her residence Robinson Street, commencing at i p.m. The large dwelling is extensively furnished throughout with every description of superior furniture, and the auctioneers have received instruction to sell everything to the best advantage. Special mention is made of the upright grand piano, which is a first class instrument, and should be largely sought after. The auctioneer expect a good attendance as everything is in first class order and beautifully clean. The euchre party and dance held in the Masonic Hall on Tuesday evening, under the auspices of the local band was largely attended. In the early part of the evening iS euchre tables were occupied. The winners of the prizes were : Ladies. —Mrs Dix, booby Mrs Baker ; gents. —Mr F. Hooker, booby Mr E. Murphy. Alterwards the floor was cleared and dancing indulged in until 12.30 oclock, the music being supplied by the Band, and Mr Ebbett’s orchestra. An extra was played by Miss Small. The catering was in the capable hands of Mr J. Walls, The committee of the band, headed by the energetic secretary, Mr A. Smith, had all arrangements complete, and the function was a pronounced success from every point of view. It is intended to hold two more socials during the season.
