The girl, a village beauty, is but 19, while 'the man is 30Because of the disparity of their social position and for other strong reasons the father was anxious to put an end to their acquaintanceship. The girl left home by train and her admirer by motor car. But they were allerwards traced to London, though the clues ended at Waterloo.
The girl’s father luinied to town and began a search of the hotels. For days he watched clubs where the man was known, and, enlisting the services ol detectives, he scoured the city and West End for traces of the fugitives. Even in the ciowds ot Picadilly a bronzed countryman who is obviously in great trouble and who scans the faces of every passer-by is apt to attract notice, and many a police officer and pedestrian heard the story of the missing couple. “My daughter is so handsome that people would be bound to turn and look at her,” the unfortunate man told one sympathiser.
The pair have now been located in Paris. But the girl has declined to return. She has communicated with her home, and the father’s quest ended, he has returned to Dorsetshire.
