The Manawatu Herald. Saturday, May 9, 1914. NOTES AND COMMENTS.
Thkrk was a splendid response on Thursday night to the Mayor’s invitation to discuss what steps should be takeu to set up a memorial to the late Mr Teviotdale and to make suitable recognition of the heroic services of Mr Guy Edwards and the lad Ebbett. The two latter are to be presented with gold medals and the Mayor authorised to bring under the notice of the Royal Humane Society the actions of those concerned. A Teviotdale Memorial Fund has been started and a citizens’ committee set up to devise and submit to subscribers a suitable scheme of dealing with the fund. Subscription lists have been sent to various public places and at this office, where sympathisers can leave whatever they feel disposed to contribute, or donations may be sent direct to the treasurer or Mayor. It is hoped that a substantial sum will be forthcoming which will enable the committee to submit a proposal which will be of practical benefit to those ccncerned as well as erecting a memorial to the memory of a brave man.
