WHARFAGE FEES ON COAL.

NOT PAID BY GOVERNMENT.

New Plymouth, April 17

At a meeting of the Harbour Board to day reference was made to the non payment by Government of wharfage fees on coal handled at New Zealand ports for the Railway Department. The chairman said the practice had cost his Board ,£IOOO a year and he considered wharfage should be paid. Government by these means showed a profit on the working of the railways. It was decided to refer the question to the next conference of Harbour Boards.
