BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the above was held on Tuesday night. Present: His Worship the Mayor (G. H. Stiles, Esq.), and Crs. Chrystall, Coley, Freeman, Henderson, Read, Alex. Speirs, and G. Whibley. An apology i or absence was received from Cr Barber,

Correspondence was read and received, and the Town Clerk’s, Borough Treasurer’s, gas manager’s, poundkeeper’s and inspector of nuisances' reports were read and received.

A deputation, consisting of Messrs Thompson, Kempster, Carter and Lautz, waited upon the Council, and urged the Council to exclude their properties from the proposed rating area for water and drainage. A circular was :c-d from the Wellington Chamber of Commerce re a conference of delegates to discuss railways—deviations and branch lines, opening of East Coast lands, improvement of main roads, particularly Paekakariki and Rimutaka inclines, and Ngahauranga Gorge, for motor traffic. --The Mayor was appointed to attend such conference.

The resignation of Cr Green was accepted, and Cr Barber was granted two mouths leave of absence.

An application for an increase of wages from the sanitary contractor was not entertained.

A lengthy discussion took place in respect to the route of the water main for the proposed Shannon scheme, and on the motion of Crs Freeman and Speirs, it was decided that the main 8 inch pipe from Shannon be diverted through No. 6 Line to the Avenue road, and that the dead end be takeu along Union Street to lot 27 of section 233, the remaining portion from corner of cemetery to lot 27 of section 233 be cut out.

On tbe motion ot Crs Henderson and Read, the previous resolution, passed on March i6lh, relative to the restricted area for water and drainage, was rescinded.

On the motion of Crs Chrystall and Freeman, tbe following special area was agreed upon, the Mayor and Crs Read and Henderson dissenting : —Commencing at the west end of the south boundary of the borough, and following the borough boundary along Purcell street to the junction of Nye street with Union street, thence across Union street to south east corner of section 218, across Nye street then in an easterly direction along the south boundary of section 233 to the south east corner ot lot 27 of section 233, then along tbe east boundary of the said lot 27, then back in a westerly direction along tbe north boundary of the said section 233, across Nye street thence along the north boundaries of sections 218, 217, 216 to lot n on deposited plan 2804, then along the east boundary of the said lot 11 to Cook street extension, across Cook street extension to lot 12 on tbe said deposited plan 2504, along the east boundary of the said lot 12 to section 514, then along the east boundary of section 514, across tbe end ot Coley street to section 493. along the east boundaries of sections 493 and 492 to Avenue road, across Avenue road, and thence along Spring street to the north boundary ot the borough, thence following tbe boundary of the borough westward to the west boundary of the borough, and then along the west boundary of the borough back to the starting point. It was decided to bold a special meeting on the 27th inst. to further discuss water and drainage and general. The Mayor and Crs Coley and Freeman were deputed to affix the seal of the Council to the agreement with the operator and custodian of the Town Hall,
