SENIOR CADETS.
WEED DONE FOXTON ! WINNERS OF THE GODEEY CUP. The annual musketry course for senior cadets classification has just been completed for area 24, which extends from the Oroua River in the north to Waikanae in the south, and area-Sergt. Major Bell is particularly well satisfied with the results. He informs us that the Foxton company contains a larger percentage of marksmen than any other company in the area. Sergeant Jewell comes out on top for the area with the fine score of 102 out of a possible of 105, fired under service conditions and thus wins the gold medal presented with the Godley Cup, which latter will be held by the Foxton Company for this year. The trophies will be presented at the inspection by General lan Hamilton at Palmerston N. on the 18th May. The runner-up was also a Foxton lad, Sergt. Mudford, who scored 100, being two points below Jewell. Jewell’s No. x target, five shots at the one aiming point, equivalent to a 4ft x 4ft target at xooyds, registered the possible. His number 2 target, a six inch square, five shots at a target exposed for five seconds, he again secured the possible. In the No. 3 target, a six inch square at 25yds, in which the marksman has to fire five shots and reload the magazine and fire another five shots within one minute, he succeeded in scoring 9 bull’s eyes and one centre, 39 out of 40. In No. 4 target, a four inch, equivalent to a 61t. square target at 500yds, he scored 18 out of 20. We heartily congratulate the local seniors on their success and may tell them that the officer is proud of them not only from a marksmanship point of view, but also on account of their splendid behaviours and discipline.
