lu reviewing the statement of profit and loss on the year’s working at the gasworks at Tuesday’s Council meeting, the Mayor pointed out that while there was only a credit balance carried forward of ,£284 18s. a gross profit of and above working expenses. The difference of 16s 2d which included a deficit of 17s from last year, had been spent on the extension of mains, meters, etc. This was necessary in all works which were expanding, and had this not been done the interest and sinking fund on the loan, viz., would have been almost provided for out of the profits for the year. A meeting to be held shortly will go into matters connected with the balance sheet acd year’s working with a view of making recommendations for the future administration of the works.
