THE FEET AND THE HANDS.

Tender feet generally arise from the neglect of cleanliness, the use of thin cotton or silk stockings, and boots or shots that are either 100 stiff and tight, or misshapen or not sufficiently porous to admit of the escape of the perspiration. Tight'’mots and shoes, and waterproof ones which are also airtight, are the the most common causes of tender feet, as aiso of headaches, dizziness, dyspepsia, diarrhoea, and even apoplexy. Boots and shoes too narrow across the toes or the tread of the foot, or insufficiently long for ease and comfort, though largo enough elsewhere, either ~ r distort the fore part of the and toes, or arrest the nails in their forward growth, forcing them back upon the sensitive flesh at their rootand sides, and causing them to grow' in thickness and width only. The results may be gradual, but are always painful. The hands of growing girls are often r i and clumsy, and girls who are . eginuiug to take thought of their appearance are sometimes in despair about them, not being aware that they will grow whiter and whiter every year. The ideal hand is white, certainly, but not dead white. It should have a touch of healthy flesh lints. The tips of the fingers and the portions that surround the palm should be tinged with pink. The fingers should taper towards the nails, the most approved shape for which is the ” filbert," so called from its resemblance to the oval form of the nut ol that name, and the similarity of the direction ot the. lines of the nails to those on the wood of the nut.

The piano was invented in Italy some 400 years ago, and was then a very crude affair, not at all like — either in tone, touch or appearance —the beautiful instruments with which we are now familiar. It is difficult to say where the best pianos are made ; indeed, there is not much to choose between the productions ot the best German or English manufacturers. The selection of a piano is pretty much a question of individual taste and requirements. There are so many maker's, so many prices and qualities which a purchaser must consider, that it is always advisable to consult a reliable firm of specialists, preferably a firm with a good reputation, a thorough knowledge of the business, and a large stock to select from. Purchase your piano from the Dresden Piano Company, Ltd. They are to be depended upon in air these respects. Time payments from 20s monthly. North Island Manager; *M. T. Brookes.
