MINISTERIAL VISIT TO FOXTON.
On Monday evening next at 8 o’clock, the Hon. Mr Fisher, Minister for Marine, etc., will deliver an address in the Town Hall on the policy oi the Government. We believe this is the first time in the history of Foxton that a Minister of the Crown has delivered a policy speech in our midst, so that the visit should be of particular local interest. Mr Fisher comes to Foxton at the invitation of local supporters of the Government, and we feel sure that he will be accorded a welcome and a hearing befitting the dignity of his office. That the Foxton people, no matter of what political colour, will uphold the splendid reputation they have gained in the past in respect to their treatment of public men, goes without saying. Of course there are a few irresponsible individuals in every community whose delight it is to gain notoriety by being noisy, but we hope for the sake of decency and the good name of the town, they will remain away from the meeting. The public should tender a patient hearing to every class of expressed thought and creed, and if the public utterances of certain individuals doss not coincide with their views of men and things they should take other opportunities of enlightening the public mind rather than howling the other fellow down —which is un-British. We believe, however, that Mr Fisher will have no cause of complaint against the intelligence and behaviour of a Foxton audience, and should a noisy element find its way into the hall it would have to be imported from elsewhere. His Worship the Mayor will preside. The Minister will be entertained at supper after the address.
