CRICKET.
On Saturday afternoon the Shannon cricket team met the Devin team on the Devin recreation reserve and suffered defeat by 78 runs. Devin made 95 and Shannon 17. The local Wednesday team met with their first reverse at Devin yesterday afternoon, the home team winning by the narrow margin of four runs. Devin won the toss and decided to bat. The first wicket partnership pul on 13 runs and the score was 34 when the second wicket fell, but the remaining baismeu failed to make any stand at all, the innings closing for 43. Tne wickets fell as follows; x for 13, 2—34, 3—34, 4—36, 5—38, 6—38, 7—38, B—4o, 9 43, 10-—43, Death, who made his first appearance bis season, bowled well, getting six wickets for 2i runs. The Foxton players considered they had a fairly strong batting team and with only the small score of 43 to beat their chances of success were voted excellent. However, the glorious uncertainty of the game was again in evidence and when the last wicket fell the the total was four short of Devin’s score. The first wicket fell with with only one on the board and at four four more batsmen Had “come and gone.” The sixth wicket fell at 10, seventh at 21, eighth at 37, ninth and tenth at 39. Hawke was the only double figure scorer, carrying his bat for 13. The following are the scores Devin. As the Himatangi players desire to get back home as early In the evening as possible, a start will be made punctually at half past one, and all ih2 Foxton players are requested to be on the ground at that lime. A match was played at the school-ground yesterday afternoon* between teams representing the School and Old Boys respectively. The teams were very evenly matched, and a good game resulted.
