The Times, iu a leader, states that it is surprise that the Government, having gone so far, did not, iu the interests of its own cause, adopt the simpler and less contentious principle of at once excluding the whole province of Ulster from the operations of the Home Rule Bill.

IRISH LEADERS CONFER. London, March xi. Prior to a Cabinet meeting, Mr A. Birrell (Chief Secretary for Ireland), Mr J. E. Redmond (Nationalist leader), Mr T. P. O’Connor, Mr J. Dillon and Mr J. Devlin (members of the Nationalist party), breakfasted with Mr Lloyd George (Chancellor of the Exchequer).

A large meeting of Irishmen carried unanimously the following resolution : “ This meeting, thoroughly representative of the Irish residents of Auckland, protests against the mutilation of the Home Rule Bill, and regrets the concessions offered to the forces of anarchy and disorder, tending to the dismemberment of Ireland and perpetuating dissension between Catholic and Protestant.” The resolution has been cabled to Mr Asquith. MORE RUMOURS REGARDING TERMS. London. March 12. The Times states that it is rumoured that Mr Lloyd George is seeking to induce the Nationalists to agree to terms Sir Edward Carson can submit regarding Ulster. Many Liberals, it is staled, are willing to meet Sir Edward Caison by abrogating the time limit, but the Nationalists at piesent refuse any further modifications. The Daily Chronicle states that the Nationalists and the Government are in complete accord.
