PAY IN THE ARMY.

Increases of pay for various ranks of officers of the regular army are announced in a Special Army Order just issued. The order applies to cavalry and infantry of the line, the Royal Artillery (except district officers), to the Household Cavalry, and the Foot Guards, but does not apply to the Territorials or Special Reserve. The command pay of a lieuten-ant-colonel of the Royal Artillery and of the officer commanding a cavalry regiment or a batalliou of infantry, will be increased from 33 to 5s a day. A major, after 24 years’ service, will be granted an ii,ciease of as per day, and majors with less than 24 years’ service will receive the rate of pay now given to a major alter two years’ service in the rank. A captain will receive an increase of 33 a day alter three years’ service in the rank, provided he has at least twelve years’ service. A lieutenant after six y r ears’ service will receive an increase of 2s 6d a day instead of the increase of is a day new granted after seven years' service in the rank, proviaed he is certified by hi- numanding officer as practically emcient in the com mand of men. Increases are also granted to certain officers of the Royal Engineers and Army Service Corps. As regards a warrant officer or non-commissioned officer promoted to commissions, the following provisions are made in the case of infantry, cavalry, and Army Service Corps

A special addition to bis regimental pay at the rate of a year for a period of three years from the date of his commission. He shall, on being commissioned, if he has served for not less than three years in the ranks, receive the minimum rate of pay provided for a lieutenant of nis arm. He shall be entitled to count not exceeding three years of the time which he has served in the ranks as service towards increase of pay in all cases in which increase of pay is dependent on the completion of a fixed period of service.
