A few local allusions during last night’s pantomine were greatly appreciated by the audience. An Eastern potentate incog, was likened to a well-known resident. In order to win the hand of Little 80-Peep Jack Straw was commanded by the Shah of Cashmir to do something great. Jack appealed to his mother, the Widow Bumpkin, who finally recommended Jack to ffnd the money for a water and sewerage scheme for Foxton ! The hit which brought down the house, however, was in the final scene, when the widow dramatically informed the Shah that she could not marry him as her hand had been promised to a certain well-known local youth.
