WELLINGTON WATERSIDERS.
FORMATION OK A NEW JJNION. Wku.ixotok, Keb, 18. The latest reported move on the waterfront is the formation of a new union. It is understood that the new body will be launched under the auspices of members and officials of tbe old Waterside Workers Union. It is claimed by tbe supporters that the new union is necessary. Waterfront conditions they say are not being attended to by the Wharf Labourers’ Union, and even men who joined the new union before the strike was officially decleared off are expressing dissatisfaction. They have no remedy with the present union. It is asserted that ■ as the executive has refused to call meetings and neglected to ■ carry into effect the resolutions
adopted at a’ meeting which was held, for these reasons they contend the |nevv governing body must be established. No application has yet been made for registration of the new union, and as one is already in existence registration may not be granted without application to the Court. It is considered that the recent decision of the Supreme Court that the union executive could operate its bank account without instructions from the general meeting has led to to this latest movement.
