The third round of the competition for the Hall Shield will be commenced on Saturday, Shannon playing the local team on the Park pitch. The game will start as soon after two o’clock as possible, and ail local players are therefore requested to be on the ground not later than 2 p.m. The Foxton and Shannon teams have so far met twice this season, and honours are even, each team winning the home match. In view ot the match the local players ate putting in as much practice as possible, every night a fair number putting in an appearance at the nets. The following team will represent Foxlon on Saturday :—Cook, Stiles, Hawke, Whibley, Tullett, Burgess, Howe, Mullins, Hollington, Young and Hislop. Emergencies : Claris aud McEwen. Afternoon tea will be provided by the ladies.

A general meeting of members of the Foxton Cricket Club was held in Mr Perreau’s rooms on Tuesday evening for the purpose of discussing the advisability of holding a cricket carnival. It was pointed out that as far as expense was concerned the present season had been a very heavy one, aud the holding of a carnival was considered to be the best means of raising funds for the club. March nth was provisionally decided upon as the date for the Junction.

The carnival will include a ladies v. men match, in which the sterner sex will appear in fancy costume, also a number of novelty events.

A committee was set up to make all the necessary arrangements, aud full particulars will appear later.

A social and dance will be held on the Friday following the carnival, at which the trophies will also be presented to the winners. The Committee also decided to open the dancing season proper with a Cricketers’ Ball, to be held during the second week in April.
