The second round of the competition for the Hall Shield was concluded on Saturday, Foxton playing and defeating Levin at Levin, by 30 runs on the first innings. Cook won the toss and sent the home team to the wickets. They made a very poor stand against the bowling of Howe and Hawke, scoring only 31 runs. The whole innings occupied under an hour and necessitated only 10>2 overs. The wickets fell as follows : one for 2, 2 —3, 3 —16, 4 —lo, 5 21, 6—22, 7 —23, 8 —29, 9—29, 10—31. Tullett and Burgess opened car efully for Foxton, the former doing practically all the scoring. Burgess was bowled with the score at 18. Tullett continued to score freely and the total reached 43 before the second wicket fell. From this on there was a collapse in the baiting, the rest of the team being disposed of for 18 runs. Foxton certainly owe their success to Toilet’s batting, bis score alone beating Levin's total by oue run. Of the Levin bowlers Broughton showed the best form and got a splendid average, six wickets for six runs.
Having about three quarters of an hour to go Levin again went to the wickets and played out time, the score wheu stumps were drawn being 47 for the loss of four wickets.
