STATE SCHOOL PICNIC.
A special meeting of the State School Committee was held last night, to make final arrangements in connection with the school excursion and picnic to be held at Ashhurst on Wednesday next. Present: —Messrs Hornblow (chairman), G. Coley, Henderson, Hunt, Hussey, S. Read and the head teacher, Mr Jackson. The Chairman reported that the special train would leave at 8 a.m., and his action was endorsed- in allowing the Oroua Downs children to participate in the outing. The tender of Mr J, Walls for catering was accepted. Mr Coley was authorised to purchase fruit to. the value of £2, and the head teacher to expend £5 on prizes for sports. The sports programme was left in the hands of Messrs Jackson and Gabites. It was decided to arrange with the caretaker to provide hot water and milk on the same terms as last year. Mr Coley reported having collected odd, and Mr Read was authorised to make a further canvass. The sale of tickets was left in the hands of the Chairman.
