CRICKET.
The Horowhenua Cricket Association is this year running both a Saturday and a Wednesday competition. The mid-week competition was commenced last Wednesday, Y.M.C.A. defeating Tevin. Yesterday Foxton played their first game in the competition defeating Y.M.C.A. by 21 runs. The weather was none too good for cricket, rain falling almost throughout the home team’s innings, but cleared when Foxton commenced to bat. Y.M.C.A. were disposed of for 33 runs, none of the batsmen reaching double figures. The bowling of Wilkes and Howe was good. Foxton, thanks to a good •fifth wicket stand by Burgess and Hawke knocked up 54, Burgess scoring 18 not out and Hawke 17The following are the scores : Y.M.C.A. On Saturday the postponed Hall Shield match between Foxton and Tevin will be played at Tevin. The team will travel by motor cars leaving the post office at 1.30 p.m. sharp.
