TO-DAY’S RACE MEETING.
The local racing club is again very fortunate in the way of weather, the elements leaving nothing to be desired. Both excursion trains were crowded and the attendance on the course must constitute a record. The course is, on account ot the long spell of dry weather, on the hard side, but apart from this everything is in first-class order. From present indications there will be good fields in all events and if recent meetings in the district are any criterion the amount put through the totalisator should easily eclipse any previous total. The catering is in the capable hands of Messrs Langley Bros., which is a guarantee that nothing will be wanting in this respect, The town itself presents a very deserted appearance, practically everyone having migrated to the course. All the local flaxmills closed down at 11 o’clock this morniue.
