Cr McKenzie retorted warmly, “ Ob, yes, you can alter anything in creation except the tram time-table. That cannot be altered!” The chairman said Cr McKenzie was not quite right. The tram time-table had been altered several times to suit the settlers. Cr McKeuzie battled away at length to convince the Councillors that the mail service would be worth having, and that the Council should collect the now paid to the guard. The chairman said if the Council collected the £lO they would be responsible for the mails. Ultimately the Council decided to allow the guard to collect the and to get a report ou the proposal of mail carrying.
