THE HEMP MARKET.
HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. The High Commissioner cabled at noon yesterday as follows: The Manila hemp market is rather quiet. Fair current, £27 10s ; forward shipment, £27 ; output for weeks ending 27th December, 3rd and xoth January, 16,000, 18,000 aud 14,000 bales respectively. New Zealand prices hardened in sympathy with Manila about middle of week, but market quieter since, closes sleady. Good fair, 10s; fair, 5s ; January to March good fair, £25 15s ; fair, 15s; stock at end of December, 1,667 tons. The tow market is very quiet, third grade, ,£lO 17s 6d ; second, £l2 3s yd. The sisal market is quiet but steady, quotations equal to for f.a.q.. for superior.
