ENTERTAINMENTS.
BENEFIT ENTERTAINMENT A splendid programme of voca items and pictures has been arranged for the benefit entertainment to be held in the Royal Hall on Tuesday evening next, in aid of the widow and family of the late -Mr Wm. Edgar. The concert portion of the programme will , comprise both local and outside talent and alone is worth the price of admission. Items will be contributed by the Foxton Glee Parly, Misses Williams and Madgin, Mrs Whitehead, and Messrs Signal, Claris, Negus and Knewstub. There will also be hakas and poi dances by the natives. The - picture programme, which includes a fine B. and C. drama of 1,254 ft., is an excellent one. It is to be hoped that the residents of the district will remember the object of the entertainmen and roll up in full force. FAMOUS WIELAERTPECHOTSCH COMBINATIONIt is rarely that this town is given the opportunity of hearing such a great combination as that of the Wielaert-Pechotsch, comprised of artists in the world’s front rank in their various btanchces of music, several having appeared before Royalty. To those who delight in good vocal and instrumental music, this is an occasion of mark, and should be made the most of, for in the programme are single items that are alone worth going to hear. Madame Wielaert and Miss Seccombe, whose pure rich voices lend depth and beauty to auy concerted pieces, are noted for their beautiful rendering of the “ Sainted Mother ” from " Maritana.” The other duets by Madame Wielaert and Miss Seccombe are gems of vocal ability and harmony. That the violin is the greatest or all instruments and one peculiarly susceptible to the interpretation of the performer’s or composer’s feelings and sympathies is an acknowledged fact, and when a master, such as Herr Pechotsch (who has several times appeared before Royalty) performs upon this instrument, the resultant music is astounding to inexperienced musiclovers. To hear him play the magnificent, famous Mendelsson’s “ Concerto” (one of the most difficult of the great compositions of the musical world) is a treat and a rare one. Miss Seccombe, the charming contralto, has obtained wide popularity through her rich, perfect voice and sympathetic interpretation of the feeling and purpose in her sougs. Then the brilliant New Zealand elocutionist and entertainer, ! Mr Thomas Harris, is indeed a host 5u himself, with a variety of ability and real - histrionic merit that has been the cause of his wide popularity and public favour. With a company of such artists, the WielaertPechotsch Combination should be supported by the Foxton townsfolk in no backward way. The performance is fixed for Saturday, 17th January, at the Royal. Any member of the company will, with pleasure, render any song or piece requested by .the audience.
