PRIMITIVE MAN.
A REMARKABLE EXPERIMENT.
A curious experience uudergoue by a Mr Joseph Knowles, a Boston artist, is told by the New York correspondent of the Standard. Kuowles has spent two mouths in the forests of Maine living as did primitive man. On August 4th, Knowles plunged into the forests near Spencer Lake, in Somerset County, Me. He was naked, he had no weapons, no tools or implements of any kind, no food. He promised to come out of the woods on October 4th, fully clad, and in good health and physical condition, and he kept his word. When he emerged at a point fourteen miles south ot Megautic (Quebec), on the Canadian Pacific Railway, he was clad in rudely dressed skins of black bear and deer,'and looked like a cave man. He carried in a pack on his back a fire machine and other tools he had fashioned tqjrjd him in Hying in a primitive way.
