On account of the glorious weather yesterday, a very large number of people from Foxton and the surrounding district spent the day at the beach. Questioned by our representative this morning as to how the Christmas trade this year compared with last, the majority of local business men stated that this year showed a falling off in the amount of cash spent. This was quite expected as the weather conditions during the past month or so have been such that the mills in the district have not been able to work anything like full time, and consequently the wages sheets have been much smaller than usual. This was the main reaion of the falling off in trade, the strike, which would effect the cities considerably, making little or no difference as far as Foxton was concerned. In Tuesday's issue we acknowledged with thanks an invitation to accompany the Mayor and Councillors to Wanganui on the sth proximo. This invitation was extended by the Managing Director of the Spiral Pipe Com pauy, and not by Mr Suggate as previously stated. The visit has been arranged by the Company in , order to afford the Mayor and Councillors an opportunity of inspecting the Company's works at Wanganui, and viewing the process of manufacture of the pipes. Alter this the visitors will will be driven round the sights of the town.
