BOY WITH INVERTED BRAIN.

SEES ALL THINGS REVERSED.

A boy who sees everything upside down, writes from left to right, inverts all bis letters and figures, aud draws aud copies any objects the wrong way up, has been discovered at Chester le Street, Durham. He is 5 years old, and bis case presents many similarities to that of an American boy reported recently. In an interview with the boy’s teacher, a pressman obtained an idea of the peculiar working of the child’s mind. Not only does he write upside down, the teacher said, but he also sees upside down. For instance, if he has to write a small “b,” the result is a “y” wrilteu backwards ; that is to say be commences to form the letter at the tail-eud and works backwards. The same operation takes place when he frames such letters as “u” and “ui,” the effect being that the letters written are “n” and “w” respectively.

His mind acts iu a similar topsy-turvey manner when he is set to copy any figure or outline drawing. His reading, however, is not affected by the brain’s peculiarity. Though it is evident that he sees letters upside down they make apparently the same impression ou his miud as upon the mind of an ordinary boy, and be can read his words with as much lacility as any other child of similar age.

The child is just learning to read aud write aud to copy blackboard drawings, aud every effort has been made to alter his abnormal method, but without success.
