HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
A meeting of the committee of the above was held on Tuesday evening. The President (Mr Witchell) occupied the chair. The question of awarding prizes for collection of birds’ eggs at the recent show was held over till next meeting in order to obtain the attendance of the winner. Accounts were passed for payment. Messrs Walsh and Whibley were appointed trustees of the society to enable an insurance policy to be effected. It was decided on the motion of Mr Jackson, seconded by Miss Speirs, to procure a suitable trophy for the sweet peas section for four varieties, three ot each, to be grown within a three mile radius of the local post office and to be won three times in succession. On the motion of the president, votes of thanks were passed to Mesdames Henderson and Croucher and Messrs Walsh and Shailer and to others who had rendered assistance at the Spring Show.
The secretary submitted a statement of receipts and expenditure in connection with the Spring Show. The receipts totalled ,£45 2s id, including door takings ,£ll 18s, entrance fees £u i3 s > tea room £5 is 3d, sweets stall £7 7 s 1 id, sheep guessing £2 7s Bd. The expenditure totalled ,£44 12s 9?d and included schedules £3 15s, hall hire £4. 10s, sweet stall £3 6s 6d, advertising £1 10s, prize money ,£24 133 6d and other minor sums making up the balance. A credit balance of 9s 3*d was disclosed.
