THE HUNTLY STRIKE.
Auckland, November 29. The directors of the Taupiri Coal Mines, Ltd,, have decided to give the miners on strike at Huntly an opportunity to return to work under the terms of the agreement existing when the trouble was declared. The offer is indicated in the following letter that has been sent by the company to the secretary of the Huntly Union, and which remains open till Thursday next: —
“ I am instructed by the directors of the Taupiri Coal Mines, Ltd., to communicate with you on the subject of the resumption of work, I have to remind you and the members of your union that the mines of this company have all along remained open for work, and I am directed to offer to members of your unicc who are now on strike an opportunity of going back to their work under the existing agreement. This offer will remain open until Thursday next, December 4th, and I shall be glad ol your reply by Wednesday next, December 3rd. lam also instructed to state that, should your union disregard this offer, the company will take such steps as it may think fit.” A correspondent at Huntly points out that a matter of interest to the miners is whether the sixteen men dismissed are to be included in the offer made. Although the men out ou strike are still very solid, there is a feeling in the township that if the matter of going back to work is put to a vote, the offer will be accepted. A meeting was subsequently held and the offer rejected.
