OBITUARY.
MRS. SYMONS—AGED 7 ( ) YEARS.
Another of the Dominion’s pioneer settlers passed away last evening, in the person of Mrs Symons, relict of the late Mr C. H. Symons, in her eightieth year. The late Mrs Symons enjoyed comparatively good health up till a few mouths ago, but latterly has been confined i;o her bed, and her passing was not unexpected. The name of Symons is linked with the first settlement of this province, and particularly with this district. Mrs Symons arrived with her parents (Nash) in Wellington iu the year 1840. Her husband arrived a year later. Mrs Symons was married at Otaki, and about eight years after her arrival in Wellington, took up her residence witli her husbaud at Piaka. In a subsequent issue we will deal with some interesting facts concerning the deceased’s pioneering period. The late Mrs Symons leaves a family of ten sons and daughters, namely : —Mrs Chas. Collins senr. (Eoxiou), Mrs F. W. Fraukland (Foxtou) Mr C. H. Symons (Whirokino), Mrs Toogood senr. (Featherston), Mrs Johnson (Kaikoura), Mrs Toogood junr. (Featherston), Mrs C. E. Robinson (Foxton), Mr. A. Svmons (Hastings), Mr W. Symons (Foxtou) and Miss Symons (Foxtou). There are about grand-children. We join iu tendering our heartfelt sympathy to the family. The interment will take place tomorrow, leaving the deceased’s late residence in Lady’s Mile for All Saints’ Church at 2.30 p.m., and thence to the Foxtou Cemetery.
