ENTERTAINMENTS.

BARTON BROS. CIRCUS TO

NIGHT

AN AMAZING ATTRACTION

This big aud popular enterprise arrived here this morniug and paraded to the circus ground behind Whyte’s Hotel, where the huge canvas tents have been erected, which opens to-night. A conspicuous feature of this organisation was the prosperous appearance of the show as the long couvoy of wagons moved in procession through the streets to the location of the circus pitch. The parade was headed by the firm’s band of twelve musicians. Each wagon is embrazoned with red and yellow, the colours of the firm. The horses are all sleek and fat, and bear every indication of careful preparation. The programme includes a great galaxy of talent, and embraces, we are informed, new turns, hitherto unattempted, in a circus in these parts. The list of “starring” engagements is headed by a Continental Waldorf troupe, six in number, of white statue performers, with limelight effects, direct from Filiis’ circus, South Africa. Special engagement of the famous Ashton Company, six beautiful lady acrobats and gymnasts. Another star turn is the Walhalia Bros., direct from the English halls, English comedy acrobats, musicians and hat spinners. Miss Ethel Ashton, sensational flying trapesist. Queensland Harry will ride celebrated outlaws and will stake £25 to ride any outlaw or buckjuraper in an English hunting saddle. A challenge of to all other riders is issued. Funny Happy Jackies, who heads the squad of comedy clowns, is described as a riot of laughter, and his witticisms are remembered for days after delivery. An all-star roll call of high grade performers, all specially engaged for the present tour. Seventy horses and ponies combine the equine department.
