OBITUARY.
JAMES TAYLOR—AGED
9 1 YEARS
Another of the fast-disappearing baud of old identities of Wellington passed away on Thursday in the person of Mr James Taylor, J.P., -of Tawa Flat, father of the late Mrs Whyte of Foxtou and grandfather of Mrs W. Barber, of Motuiti, at the age of 91 years. Mr Taylor arrived in Wellington in the Martha Ridgway, as far back as the year 1839, in those days when the hills of Port Nicholson were wooded down to the water’s edge. For more than sixty years he was actively employed in many positions in public life. Church work in the Methodist circuit also received a large share of his attention, and he served with distinction for a long time in the volunteer forces. The deceased gentleman is survived by his wife whom he married in the old Manners Street Church in 1844, and of his family of fourteen, eleven are now living, comprising six sons and five daughters. There are 65 grand-children, 51 great grand-children, and one great ■ great - grandchild. Many people will remember the golden and diamond celebrations of the marriage of Mr and Mrs Taylor.
