MANAWATU ROWING CLUB.

The annual general meeting of members of the Manawalu Rowing Club was held in the Coronation Hall supper-room on Thursday evening. There were eleven members present and the president (Mr B. G. Gower) occupied the chair.

The balance sheet disclosed that the Club was in a very good position, the credit balance at the bank being in the vicinity of £2O and also showed a surplus of assets over liabilities of nearly £2OO. Six new members were elected.

The following officers were elected for the ensuing year; President, Mr B. G. Gower; vicepresidents, Messrs A. H. Boyes and J. E. Harvey ; captain, Mr H, McKegney; vice-captain, Mr R. Ashmore; secretary, Mr R. Dixon; treasurer, Mr E. Healey ; committee, Messrs K. Furrie, H. Hamer and Powell; auditors, Messrs Whibley aud Strong. It was decided to purchase the 14.1 t. boat under offer from Mr Healey at £8 7s 6d. The question ot affiliation with the Amateur Rowing Association was discussed at some length. It was stated that the Club had paid its affiliation fee for a good number of years, but some few years back as there did not then appear to be any prospect of the Club being represented at regattas the fee was not paid nor had it been since. East year the Club captain, Mr H. McKegney, had taken part in the Wanganui Iregatla, but through the local Club not being affiliated Mr McKegney bad also to join a Wanganui Club and row in their colours. The prize won by him had consequently gone to the Wanganui Club. Members were of opinion that steps should be taken to again become affiliated so that members could take part in regattas in the colours of the Manawatu Rowing Club. It was decided to instruct the secretary to communicate with the secretary of the Amateur Rowing Association and ascertain the true position and terms upon which the Club could again become affiliated and that the committee have power to deal with the matter upon the receiving a reply. The members of the Committee are to meet at the shed for the purpose of Inspecting the shed and plant, and to have any necessary repairs effected. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr H. McKegney for the manner in which he had gratuitously looked after and repaired the Club’s plant. The question of organising a picnic for members and friends was discussed, and it was decided to engage Mr Daniell’s launch for the purpose of holding an up-river picnic for members and their lady friends on Wednesday, November i2tb. The party will leave the wharf on that day at 2 p.m. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting.
